ABOUT MEE About me

Hi, I’m Melanie Brown, a passionate and fully insured canine and equine physiotherapist, serving the wonderful animals of Cumbria, South West Scotland, and the Scottish Borders.

I am a proud member of:

  • The Institute of Registered Veterinary & Animal Physiotherapists (IRVAP)

  • The International Association of Veterinary Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy (IAVRPT)

  • The Trusted Trader Scheme

  • Certified Equine Ergonomist

My journey to becoming a veterinary physiotherapist started a bit later in life. As a mature student, I jumped into a 4-year BSc (Hons) in Applied Animal Science. After completing my degree, I wasted no time and enrolled in Post Graduate Veterinary Physiotherapy training—a 2-year part-time course, all while working full-time. Along the way, I also trained in Horse, Saddle, and Rider Evaluation (LANTRA accredited) and became a Certified Equine Ergonomist.

I am constantly striving to learn more and grow in my field. Over the years, I’ve attended various courses, and the learning never really stops, which is something I truly love.

On the personal side, I share my life with two amazing horses—Brooke (who you can see in the picture) and Ruby, who is enjoying her well-earned retirement. I also have Nora, a rescue French Bulldog, and Gypsy, a cat who found me at the stables one day and never left! When I am not working, you’ll often find me spending time with them, and my favourite thing to do is take Brooke out for rides in the forest.

To keep my certifications up to date, I complete at least 25 hours of continuing professional development (CPD) each year, which I genuinely enjoy. There's always something new to learn!

As Michelangelo once said

'I am always learning'
